The endurance retreat

Liminal Ascent

A physical and mental endurance retreat in Zermatt, beneath the Matterhorn. A small group takes on the Ultraks trail race and trains toward the Matterhorn ascent. The point is not the summit. It is what the effort of trying reveals about you.

Location

Zermatt, Switzerland

Liminal Ascent

Liminal Ascent is the most physical of our retreats. In Zermatt, beneath the Matterhorn, the days are built around real exertion: the Ultraks trail race, and the training and acclimatisation for a Matterhorn climb.

The reason for the effort is embodiment. Insight that stays stuck in your head often arrives in the body instead, at altitude and past the point of comfort. What you take home is not a result to report, but a clearer, first-hand sense of how you meet difficulty when it is genuinely hard.

Dates for the next Zermatt retreat to be confirmed.

The Ultraks Zermatt trail race

The group runs Ultraks, the demanding alpine trail race through the mountains above Zermatt. A shared test of effort and grit.

Toward the Matterhorn

We train, acclimatise, and prepare for an ascent of the Matterhorn, one of the most demanding of the classic Alpine climbs.

Knowledge in the body

Questions you usually try to reason through get answered differently at altitude, out of breath, past the point you thought you could hold.

How you meet difficulty

At the edge of your capacity the usual composure drops, and you see plainly how you respond under real strain. That is the material we work with.

A small, committed group

Ascent is deliberately small. Training and struggling alongside a few others builds a trust that carries well beyond the mountain.
